Alcohol Lamp DIY

Today, I was going to post a video blog about relationships and break-ups... but my husband and i finished off a bottle of vodka before dinner that we had been wanting to make into a lap. So we did that after dinner. Here are the directions.
First, Pick a lamp. Any lamp. It has to be a decent size of course but any bottle will work as long as you can find a lamp shade to fit it. We picked a BIG bottle of Belvedere Vodka from a local big box store.

Next, you need to drink it. This is probably the most time consuming part of the project. The bigger the bottle, the longer it takes. Let me know if you need help drinking it and Ill be right over with some goodies. It needs to be empty, clean and dry.

Here are the additional supplies you will need:
Glass drill bit
Drill
Regular drill bit
Lamp kit (you can get this for about $10 at a hardware store)
Bulb
Lamp Shade

Now comes the handy work. Get a glass drill bit and drill a small hold in the bottom back of the bottle. This will be where the cord goes through. Go slowly, without applying pressure, to prevent the bottle from cracking.

Here's what a glass drill bit looks like if you have never seen one. This can be found in a hardware store too.

Now, feed the electrical cord through the bottom hole and up through the top of the bottle. The plug should be at the bottom end of the bottle.

Now, pick one of the bottle adapters that came with the kit, you don't need it to fit perfectly, but it does need to fit inside the top.

Follow the directions, and place the lamp nipple into the adapter leaving the headroom specified. Feed the cord through and put adapter into bottle.

Now, enlist your husbands help again and have him drill a hole into the bottle lid allowing it to fit over the nipple and adapter. Screw onto bottle.

Now for the electrical part, follow the directions on the package and connect the socket and wiring.

Put a bulb in and the shade on top. Plug it in and marvel at your creation!!! We used a lamp shade that we had on another lamp, but you can find pretty cheap ones at craft and DIY stores.

Here is what the adapter kit looks like. You can find them in the lamp isle of any hardware store for pretty cheap!

Please let me know if you make one of these lamps, and post a picture!!
